Community Updates – Apr 27, 2012

Community Updates – Apr 27, 2012

1) Update on the National Crime Prevention Centre’s (NCPC) Youth Gang Prevention Fund Project – please see the attached letter of intent and application fund provided to the SPC from Nancy Gale.
2) Bike Registration - The City of Williams Lake encourages all bicycle owners to register their bicycles in its Bike Protection Program. Bicycle owners can complete a registration form including a photograph of their bicycle. The owner retains the information, and in the event the bike is lost or stolen, he or she can bring the form to City Bylaw Services. This will assist the bylaw department in identifying bikes and owners, reuniting owners with lost or stolen bicycles. Registration forms are available at www.wiliiamslake.ca, City Hall and local bicycle stores. There is no fee for the Bike Protection Program.
“Bicycles are a high theft item in Williams Lake, and the City wants to reduce thefts,” says Councillor Laurie Walters, Chair of the City’s Community Services Committee. “By registering your bike, you can increase the chances of having your missing or stolen bike returned to you.”
A City representative will be in attendance at a bike rodeo May 13, 2012 at the Canadian Tire parking lot from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm to help owners register their bicycles.
In addition, the City will assist with registrations again at the Pedal by the Puddle June 10th, 2012 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Gun-A-Noot Trail, near the old Williams Lake Airport. For more information, please contact the City at 250-392-2311.
3) Communities that Care presents RAP Training (Response Ability Pathways) Through the Circle of Courage Institute
REGISTRATION
When: May 23rd & 24th , 2012
Time: 8:30 am – 4:30 p.m
Where: TBA
The Circle of Courage® has piloted an innovative curriculum which offers "basic training" for all who deal with challenging children and youth. Response Ability Pathways®, or simply RAP, provides essential strength-based strategies for all who deal with young persons in family, school, or community.
Response Abilities Pathways (RAP) is based on the Circle of Courage Model. It looks at resilience and positive youth development based on the universal needs of children (ie. Belonging, Mastery, Independence & Generosity). RAP teaches those who work with youth how to look beyond the outside child to the inside child and provides a guideline utilizing a process called Connect, Clarify and Restore. RAP outlines easy strategies to use to help connect with youth and build rapport.
How:

Two members from each of our Community Board partner organizations are invited to attend this excellent – and free! – training event. You must attend both days and be able to participate for the entire day.
To register email Carla ASAP at comthatcares@sd27.bc.ca Put RAP Registration in the subject line. For more information on RAP including a workshop outline visit http://www.circleofcourageinstitute.org/
