1) The Social Planning Council AGM is on Monday Nov 5th from 11:30 am – 1 pm (drop-in’s welcome)
Everyone from the community is invited to attend the Williams Lake Social Planning Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday Nov 5th from 11:30 am – 1 pm at Thompson Rivers University (free lunch is included). The event is an open room café-style gathering over lunch to discuss, share, participate, or just learn about initiatives including a) the local Poverty Reduction and Living Wage Campaign, b) Effective Community Collaboration, and c) Retention and Succession; Increasing overall community desirability and reduce “brain drains” and a “silver tsunami”.
The Social Planning Council (SPC) is a facilitative forum to share information, programs, projects, issues and connections between agencies, the City and Citizens. Their mandate is to inform, recognize, and celebrate social developments within Williams Lake and the surrounding Area. They are funded in part by The City of Williams Lake and the United Way. 2) For Immediate Release: UNITED WAY HAS $30,000 TO INVEST IN WILLIAMS LAKE
Williams Lake, BC – United Way has a remaining $30,000 to invest in Williams Lake non-profits after investing approximately $60,000 into the community on Monday. Investment decisions are made by the Williams Lake Community Impact Council. There is an opportunity for interested organizations to submit an application for funding up to $15,000 by November 9th.

4) Financial Literacy Contest:
Show how you would nurture your tree and use money from it to save, spend, donate, borrow and invest to reach your life goals. Prizes will be given to entries with the healthiest money tree.
Entries must be on a single side of paper (any size). On the back write your name, age and phone number. Submit your entry in sealed envelope in the contest entry box, located at the Cariboo Regional District Library in Williams Lake or 100 Mile House, closing date: Friday 9th November 2012

7) Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids Campaign:
Cariboo Quality Cleaners and the Salvation Army are one again partnering to assist low income families with winter coats. Applications for "coats for Kids" can be made through the Food Bank throughout the month of November (no appointment necessary). Donations of coats can be made through the Salvation Army - or dropped off at Cariboo Quality Cleaners on 397 Oliver St.

8) Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper Campaign:
Applications for Christmas Hampers are being accepted throughout the month of November. Monday to Friday afternoons between 1:00-4:00 pm. No appointments necessary. Hamper distribution Date: December 22nd. This year both food and toy hampers will be distributed out of the Dining Hall at 272 Borland.

o Monthly Meetings: Attend meetings with guest speakers from within the community &/or presentations at each meeting. We currently meet the fourth Monday of every month (excluding summer) at City Hall with light lunch by donation.
o Facebook & Email Group: Utilize the network on Facebook. Start discussions, learn about & share upcoming community events, projects and meetings. If you don’t use Facebook, then join the email network instead.
o Inform City Council: The SPC provides reports to City Council regularly and the City keeps the SPC informed. Use the network and have your voices heard.
Strategic Direction of the Social Planning Council of Williams Lake & Area:

o Retention and Succession of residents within the Area.

o Supports communities in building an integrated approach to complex problems that take into account social, economic, and environmental concerns.

o Provides an ongoing forum for communication, coordination and conflict resolution.
