1) Thompson Rivers University - unveiling of new Human Service Program Renewal and Innovation delivery model

Tuesday June 18th 4:00 – 5:00 pm - Light snacks and beverages will be served

Human Service Programs in Williams Lake are embarking on several new and innovative initiatives in Human Service Education this year. It is clear that the world is changing rapidly and that people who work with people need training and education that is responsive to those changing times.  With that in mind, our faculty in Williams Lake aim to deliver principled programs that:

Base instruction on recognized best professional practice, high academic standards with strong ties to effective research from the field,

Incorporate a strong emphasis on relationships as a tool for working with individuals and communities,

Demonstrate a commitment to teach, model and foster collaborative and reflective practice that values human diversity,

Utilize experiential teaching and learning methods that deal with and reflect both local problems and those in the larger world, and;

Incorporate flexible blended delivery of courses and content that provide a better fit with the economic and social realities of today’s students as well as meeting the needs of students in remote rural communities.

For this session we will share some of the ways we hope to achieve these goals.

7) United Way’s Day of Caring 2013

“The idea is simple. An organization needs a new fence, or a paint job, or some landscaping, or some food hampers. So a local business donates a team of employees to get the job done. But it’s not just about the fence. It’s about a sense of caring through volunteerism and connecting people in the community with different skills, different knowledge, and different backgrounds. It’s about team-building for those employees, who have the chance to learn about the programs and services that the organization offers.

Our applications for 2013 Day of Caring® projects are now up on our website. If you are a company interested in participating in a Day of Caring® please fill out the Company Request Form and if you are a non-profit agency interested in hosting a Day of Caring® please fill out the Agency Application Form online.”
