Swap, sell, trade, buy locally grown and saved seeds and seedlings and bedding plants for your garden – everything is GMO free. Later in the day from 2- 4 pm at the Cariboo Lodge Garden (Borland & 4th Ave) come to the open house/work party to beautify the site and get beds ready for planting.
2) Walk for Harmony May 8th - Come Celebrate Multiculturalism by supporting the International Day for the Elimination of Racism on Tuesday, May 8th 2012 with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Walk for Harmony. The Event starts at Boitanio Park at 11:30 am with a walk through town ending at Spirit Square for ethnic refreshments. Posters created by local students are being displayed by local businesses on the walk’s route, so come & show your support. For more info contact Marilyn Livingston or Tom Salley at 250-302-9119
3) Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex’s KidSport Classic Run - taking place on June 24, KidSport™ is a community based sport-funding program established in 1993 and provides grants for children ages 18 and under to participate in a sport season of their choice. There are over 35 community chapters in BC and over 175 chapters across Canada, including here in Williams Lake. On Jun 24th the Cariboo Memorial Complex is holding the Kidsport Classic Run. Funds raised goes towards fulfilling its mission of eliminating the financial barriers to sport participation, ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’ For more information, please visit www.kidsport.ca or activewilliamslake.com.
In Williams Lake on Sunday Jun 24th from 8 – 11:30 am, the run will follow a scenic tour around the lake and meander back to Boitanio Park. 1/2 Marathon, 10 km Walk/Run and 2 - 4 member relay are the distances. Students cost $10 and $25 for adults.
WHY KIDSPORT? By providing kids with an opportunity to participate in sport programs, KidSport encourages:
• developing early physical activity habits that will help increase the probability that kids will remain active in adulthood
• getting kids active in sport programs when they are young to develop a strong and healthy community for the future
• helping to create these opportunities for sport participation and playing a significant role in supporting many under-represented families in Canada facing economic obstacles
4) Williams Lake Fire Department’s open house is May 6th – the community is invited and the whole family can come meet the members of their local fire department, enjoy a hot dog barbecue, check out the fire trucks and the fire hall, and learn about safety in the Safety House. There will also be other games and activities at the event, beginning at 10 a.m.
At noon, firefighters from the Williams Lake Department and other regional departments will compete in the firefighter challenge. The firefighters will also wash cars in their famous “rinse cycle.”
