is Hospice Palliative Care Awareness Month in Williams Lake… The City of WL has proclaimed May as Hospice Month in Williams Lake and our banner
will be hanging from the park/playground. Some events to celebrate this month
include:
May
3rd – 9th is National Hospice Palliative Care Week 2015 …
This year’s awareness campaign focuses on spreading the word about the
importance of quality, accessible hospice palliative care in Canada. Education
and awareness are the two key components of the campaign. The Power of 10 … spread the word
by talking to 10 people in your social circles. If everyone starts the conversation with 10 people in their life (family,
friends, coworkers), this important message will spread exponentially!
Seedy
Saturday, May 9th @ Herb
Gardner Park … WLHS will be there selling our Memory Seeds, plantable
wildflowers in memory of your loved ones (by donation).
Sunday,

March 23, 2011, the Order in Council of the Province of British Columbia has
proclaimed the 3rd Sunday of every

10) Boys & Girls Club fundraiser - Race for Kids (Amazing race
style)
Looking for teams and volunteers:
The Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake is thrilled to announce a fun, new
fundraiser to Williams Lake! We are participating in a new fundraising
initiative called "Capital One Race
for Kids". The event will take place on May 23, 2015 and is described
as a combination of Amazing Race and Minute-to-Win-it. All funds raised from
this event will support our after school programs.
After school is a crucial time to
keep children and youth active and engaged. Giving children the opportunity for
after school activities can positively influence individuals and communities in
many ways. Your support of this event would be most appreciated and help to
make our event successful. At this point we are looking for the community’s
support in 2 ways:
a) Looking for Volunteers – we need lots of help with this event. Volunteers can sign-up
right on the website www.raceforkids.ca/williamslake
b) Looking for Teams – the more the merrier! Teams of 4 can register any time on the
website. If your place of business would like to put in a team, then the
business itself can sponsor that team and help them with their fundraising
efforts! The top individual fundraiser in Williams Lake will receive a WestJet
voucher for two to anywhere WestJet flies!
Please visit the event websites
at www.raceforkids.ca and www.raceforkids.ca/williamslake for more information.

11) Success for 6 - funding is available for projects
supporting local children 0 - 6
We
want to hear from you! Success by 6 in Williams Lake is delighted to announce
that we have funding available for projects supporting local children 0-6 and
their families! This funding is for programs running from July 1, 2015 to June
30, 2016, and the deadline for completed proposals is May 31, 2015.
Success by 6 is a program
administered through United Way which provides support for aboriginal and
non-aboriginal community organizations and programs that benefit children up to
the age of six. We receive funding every year from the BC government, United
Way and BC Credit Unions, which we disperse throughout the Cariboo Chilcotin to
non-profit groups to support young children and their families.
Success by 6 has two main
priorities: preventing childhood vulnerability and aboriginal engagement –
supporting programs and ideas from First Nations communities. In addition, our
Community Table has identified four strategic directions: increasing awareness
of the importance of early childhood development, engaging the community to
take action in early childhood development, enriching community resources for
the benefit of young children and increasing opportunities for families to
access available community resources.
Collaborative programs and
partnerships that fit these priorities and directions are encouraged! Some of
our funded projects include the Family Literacy Festival and the Children’s
Festival, playground equipment, computer software, toys, craft supplies and
cultural programs for First Nations preschools and daycares, and equipment used
by professionals working with children with developmental challenges.
If
you are a non-profit group with a great idea for an initiative, a program or an
event in the Williams Lake area please
contact me at leraehaynes@gmail.com,
phone or text me at 250-398-9848 or contact me on Facebook (Williams Lake
Success by 6.) If it would be helpful, I would be delighted to meet with you to
help work out the details of your proposal.
If your proposal is
successful, you will be required to sign a letter of agreement with Success by
6 before receiving the funding, and fill out an online survey for our records
at the completion of your project.
I look forward to hearing
from you!
Sincerely,
LeRae Haynes
