memorable moment. Boys & Girls Club Charity number available upon request.

5) Charter for Compassion - Sunday May 25th at
3pm
Would you like to make a positive
difference in your community? Would you like to learn more about the Global
Compassion Movement? Join us for a compassion conversation at 3pm on Sunday May
25th at the IMSS Centre (118C N.1st Ave). Below is some background information
on the Charter for Compassion.
Charter for Compassion
In 2008, author Karen Armstrong received the TED prize: $1,000,000
given to a person with a “bold vision to spark global change.” Together with an
international group of scholars, she created the Charter for Compassion, a
statement about how humans should live together regardless of ethnicity, religion,
or race, focusing on the Golden Rule: doing to others what you wish for yourself.
Compassion
is the principled determination to put ourselves in the shoes of the other, and
lies at the heart of all religious and ethical systems.
Compassionate
thinking and compassionate action in our public and private lives can change
the world one person at a time.
Rooted
in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break
down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our
deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a
fulfilled humanity.
We would like to start a Compassion Conversation, bringing
together people from education, business, non-profit, religious, political, and
all other sectors to discuss ways in which we can explore the challenge of the
Charter in our community. The Gendun Drupba Buddhist Temple has already become
a partner in the Charter for Compassion. Several organizations, including the
Women’s Spirituality Circle, the Multiculturalism Program of CMHA, Immigrant
and Multicultural Services Society (Williams Lake Branch) and the Social
Planning Council, among others, are working together to bring the idea of
Compassion into public discussion.
If you are interested in learning more about the Charter for
Compassion movement, see charterforcompassion.org
If you are interested in being a part of the Compassion
Conversation, please attend our first meeting at the IMSS Centre (118C N. 1st
Ave), 1:00 pm, Sunday, May 25. If you cannot attend, but would like to receive
more information, please send your contact information to sharont@imss.c or drop it off at
