Presentation – BC Ministry
of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development
Update on slope stability and environmental rehabilitation within
the region. Opportunity for Q & A.
Kristy Palmantier, Recovery Office for the Williams Lake area –
Power Point Highlights are below.
- Kristy provided an overview of
the Community Wildfire Recovery Branch.
- She confirmed that there are a
number of Recovery Managers for many of the bands in our area and they hope to
have all positions filled soon.
- Mandate is to support local
government and First Nations community-led recovery. Build on local strengths and work with key
people and organizations.
- There are also many provincial
working groups that feedback the information to the Emergency Management BC
(EMBC) and Community Wildfire Recovery Branch (CWRB).
- Community consultations are
informing the recovery action plans.
- People and Communities,
Economy, Environment, Infrastructure/Reconstruction are the four pillars
guiding the work.
Question regarding plan to address potential flooding now that trees
have been clear cut from Fox Mountain. Kristy
said she could find out as this is part of the resource and land planning
group.
Question about how information is being shared and communicated to
ensure integration of plans. Doing the
best they can to ensure information is shared widely.
Consistent theme at the community consultations has
been the importance of community-based preparedness. Intention is to respond to
these themes and identify how to support communities.

THRIVE Williams Lake
Project
New project to develop a community poverty reduction strategy. Anne
provided an overview of the project to people who were not yet aware of it. The
intention of the project is to try things as well. This project connects to all
areas of people lives. First step is to learn what is going on and identify
some of the challenges.

Individuals are encouraged to complete the on-line feedback form.
Anne Burrill said she could work with Jessica to submit something on behalf of
the SPC.
Carla encouraged each organization to submit something. She also
encouraged people to work with clients so they can contribute their feedback.
Future Projects and
Strategic Planning
Unmet Needs Working Group was
established because it’s identified as best practice. A Long term recovery
group is also considered best practice and is intended to be community driven.
The SPC might want to have a discussion on whether or not this could be a good
place for this group to land. Stephanie will forward more information on this
working group to the SPC so that we can have more in-depth conversations on
this. How do we build resilience in an integrated way? It helps people to think
about recovery in a long term way.
Kathie Vilkas recommended Graham Kelsey to facilitate a strategic
planning session.
Roundtable Updates*

United Way has hired Community Wellness Team. Ashlee’s position has
shifted and is now 70% focused on wild-fire recovery.
Trevor looking at economic development going forward. Participating in
many consultations.
Success by 6 still looking for some legacy project. A legacy project is something they would fund
every year.
Housing First – fully subscribed at the moment.
Museum – strong new board. Doing renovations in the basement to
expand the museum. Seniors Centre, March
9 is a fundraiser for the museum. Want to connect with folks who are interested
in creating a Heritage Park to see how they can work together.
Deadline for Performance in the Park applications is this Friday.
Grants for arts projects. Can be completed on-line. Deadline is June
1.
Hospice. Hike for Hospice event May 6th - see poster
Boys and Girls Club – Race for Kids fundraiser. It’s their only fund raiser. Please come out
and support it.
Community Gaming Grants, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm workshop for the public.

One-on-one consultation available from 1-4. You need to pre-register
with Community Futures.
Psycho-social First Aid Training offered by United Way – This is a 7
hour Train-the-Trainer session. Hoping to offer this in April. People should
contact the United Way if interested in participating.
